Running Visual Studio Code on macOS

The same dialogs may be displayed when running other applications as well. The dialog is shown once for each type of personal data and it is fine to choose Don’t Allow since VS Code does not need access to those folders. Restart the terminal for the new $PATH value to take effect. You’ll be able to type ‘code .’ in any folder to start editing files in that folder. Extension Marketplace

VS Code is lightweight and should run on most available hardware and platform versions. You can review the System Requirements to check if your computer configuration is supported. To disable suggestions from GitHub Copilot for the specified language, click Disable for LANGUAGE. You can also use GitHub Copilot to generate suggestions for APIs and frameworks.

The Marketplace also prevents extension authors from name-squatting on official publishers such as Microsoft and RedHat. The Marketplace runs a virus scan on each extension package that’s published to ensure its safety. The virus scan is run for each new extension and for each extension update. Until the scan is all clear, the extension won’t be published in the Marketplace for public usage.

Seeing your first suggestion

Review diffs, stage files, and make commits right from the editor. To download an extension, navigate to the details page for the specific extension within the Marketplace.

See the Proxy server support section in the setup topic for details. To dismiss a recommendation, select on the extension item to open the Details page and then select the Manage gear button to display the context menu. Ignored recommendations will no longer be recommended to you. You can clear the Search box at the top of the Extensions view and type in the name of the extension, tool, or programming language you’re looking for. An extension is uniquely identified by its publisher and extension IDs.

Cross platform

The following example uses GitHub Copilot to create a simple Express server that returns the current time. To accept a suggestion, above the suggestion, click Accept Solution. If you use Visual Studio Code, you can view and incorporate suggestions from GitHub Copilot directly within the editor. On Windows and Linux, you can update VS Code by copying the data folder over to a more recent version of VS Code. Working with Git and other SCM providers has never been easier.

Microsoft has released Visual Studio Code’s source code on the GitHub.com’s VS Code repository under the permissive MIT License. To disable suggestions from GitHub Copilot globally, click Disable Globally. To enable or disable GitHub Copilot, click the status icon in the bottom panel of the Visual Studio Code window. To open a new tab with multiple additional options, press Ctrl+Enter. You may not want any of the initial suggestions GitHub Copilot offers.

Update Portable VS Code

This will uninstall the extension and prompt you to reload VS Code. With WSL, you can install and run Linux distributions on Windows. This enables you to develop and test your source code on Linux while still working locally on your Windows machine.
